Teacher Development - Secondary School Intervention Programme (SSIP)

User Rating: / 0
PoorBest

The Lesson Plan Development Process is an initiative that has been put into place after an announcement was made by the MEC for Education, Mrs Barbara Creecy at the launch of the SSIP Teacher Development Programme held at the Gallagher Estate on 16 April 2011.

The developed lesson plans will be distributed to the teachers identified in the 330 underperforming schools in Gauteng.

This process will hopefully create an environment in the classrooms throughout the province of Gauteng in order to:

  • support the teacher in the classroom
  • reduce the paper-work and administration load
  • ensure that all of the selected teachers are able to work in a structured and organised and professional manner
  • ensure that all of the selected teachers are able to keep up with the provided work schedules and year plans
  • ultimately ensure that the students/learners receive a quality classroom experience in order to improved results

Matthew Goniwe School of Leadership and Governance as an organisation is also afforded the opportunity of engaging with subject specialists, Departmental officials and teachers in a combined effort to achieve the goal of ensuring improved teaching practice at classroom level, while at the same time ensuring improved and enhanced learner progress and performance, through the development of the Lesson Preparation Templates and the Supporting Documentation.

The provided Lesson Preparation Templates and Supporting Documents should be seen as working documents, to be used by teachers when preparing, planning and presenting lessons. The supporting documentation serves as guidelines to teachers and should be used in conjunction with the textbooks, resources and technology that is available at the school in order to enhance the classroom experience of the students.

These will be utilized by teachers and where areas for improvement are identified, these will be implemented in an effort to ensure that all teachers are constantly engaged in the process so that the Gauteng Education Department of Education along with all stakeholders is able to achieve its vision for the province.
