Over many years CUREE has reviewed and analysed the evidence of what works in professional development for teachers. The conclusion that stands out from this work is that professional development is much more likely to be successful when it involves collaboration between staff and that effective mentoring and coaching is key to professional development. The evidence of what works has been distilled into the national framework for mentoring and coaching. To help schools to develop their own approach to mentoring and coaching we have produced a suite of materials that can be used as part of a development programme within individual schools called Effective Mentoring and Coaching. These six packs will support CPD leaders to run development in school for mentors, coaches and professional learners and build on the evidence about what has a positive impact for students. We have also brought together a range of resources relating to mentoring and coaching to help you understand the evidence underpinning these developments. |

This website contains details of research publications for the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), as well as those previously published by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) which the two new Departments have replaced.The projects are clearly delineated by their titles being prefixed with either ‘DCSF’ or ‘BIS’. From 29 June 2007, published projects for each Department are delineated by their titles being prefixed with either ‘DCSF’ or ‘BIS’. DCSF endeavours to publish findings from the research it commissions within 12 weeks of the final completion date for a project. Research reports are published on this site on the last Thursday of each month, or to co-incide with a related policy announcement, and are listed in order of date published. BIS research reports relating to FE, HE and Skills are also published on this site, in date order of release.
